Arsenal have had a brilliant run ever since their 3 nil victory over United a fortnight ago. The Gunners resumed the international break afterwards with another 3 – 0 victory over newly-promoted side, Watford, before doing the impossible at the Emirates by handing German Champions, Bayern Munich their first defeat in over 10 games with a 2 – 0 win. They capped such fine consistency of wins by grabbing another 3 points at home when they defeated Everton 2 – 1 over the weekend. With such results, the squad will no doubt need some rotation as they will also be in action tomorrow in the League Cup as they face Sheffield Wednesday.
The lower league teams could at times prove a problem to top flight clubs, and Sheffield will be looking at causing an upset. Yet, Wenger will be looking at resting several of the first team players and will be giving the young players a chance to prove themselves. The match is away from the Emirates, and the joint-League leaders will be looking at proceeding to the next round with ease and probably rounding things up in the first leg tomorrow. Ramsey is already out with injury, and the likes of Coquelin, Cazorla and Ozil will need to be rested after a run of almost 7 matches for both club and countries.
The few options left aren’t that much. Arteta who was beginning to regain full fitness picked up a knock in training for the Everton match, and he has joined Wilshere and Rosicky again on the injury sidelines. The club is now left with Mathieu Flamini, who will handle the defensive midfield role. The central midfield remains void of option save for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Krystian Bielik.
The former was once tipped to take over the midfield, but has now become a permanent winger. He could be deployed to the role, leaving Wenger to stick with another option by the right wing. The young Krystian Bielik, who many have compared with Patrick Vieira could also be given the benefit of the doubt for the midfield role. It will interest many to see what lineup Wenger will come up with for the game.
