Due to the injury crisis that is threatening to derail Arsenal’s season, Wenger is reportedly seriously considering playing full backs Kieran Gibbs or Hector Bellerin on the flanks in an attempt to solve Arsenal’s midfield problem.
The injuries to both Theo Walcott and Oxlade Chamberlain during the 3-0 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday last Tuesday in the capital one cup has further depeleted Arsenal’s midfield with the likes of Rosicky, Arteta, Wilshere and Ramsey already out for weeks.
On paper, one of the simplest move is for the gunners to move Santi Cazorla back to the wings and bring Flamini to the middle, another option will be to bring Joel Campbell into the team and play him in the wing but his woeful performance against Sheffield Wednesday means Wenger is very unlikely to consider such a move.
According to Daily Telegraph, Wenger believes Gibbs or Bellerin could be the solution to the problem and is seriously giving the option a consideration in training. Gibbs in particular has been brought off the bench to play on the flank for Arsenal a couple of times in the last two seasons and he started his career as a youth prospect playing as a winger hence playing him on the left side of the wing may not be a bad idea.
Bellerin also reportedly started out as a winger before settling down in the right side of the defense. His overlapping runs from his full back position role is a great pointer to the fact that should push comes to shove, the young Spaniard can play a more forward role for the gunners.
