Leicester City’s academy product, Ben Chilwell is in the news again. The highly rated defender is currently sought after by Arsenal who are back in the race to sign him. The Gunners attempted to sign Chilwell last summer but the deal fell through. The player subsequently moved on to Huddersfield Town on a youth loan in November. The loan deal expired on 3 January 2016 and the youngster’s future is set to be decided once again this winter.
The Leicester’s Academy Player of the Year award winner for the 2014/15 season impressed manager Claudio Rianeri during the club’s pre-season games. He was however sent on a short-term loan at Huddersfield Town and is expected back in line for action in England following the injury to club mate, Jeff Schlupp.
Arsenal have been tracking the 19-year-old youngster for weeks now and are are set to bid for him. The Gunners had a £5m bid rejected in the summer and they will now look to up that bid. Leceister, on their part, are willing to sell at a right price. According to reports, talks are underway to secure Chilwell’s signing and a deal could soon materialize. The Daily Star also reports that Liverpool and Chelsea are also interested in the Leicester player.
Chilwell may have to slug it out Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs for a starting shirt and a chance to play. That may not suit his development needs. Due to this, he may be sent out on loan again especially as Huddersfield Town haven’t ruled out the possibility of taking him back on loan, whether from Leicester City or his new employers if he moves on.
