Chelsea football club might have appointed Russian Guus Hiddink as interim coach of the team, but the club will nevertheless be in the market for a long-term replacement for the sacked Jose Mourinho. Hiddink is expected to lead the Blues until the end of this season. In the meantime, Chelsea are looking to bring in Atletico Madrid’s Diego Simeone for next season.
Simeone joined the Spanish club back in 2011 and has guided them to Europa League, Copa del Rey, and La Liga titles. They were also finalists in the Champions league only narrowly losing the crown to city rivals Real Madrid in 2014. In short, he has transformed a club with little resources and average pedigree to a force to be reckoned with especially to the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona. They are currently placed second on the La Liga standings level on points with leaders Barcelona.
Now, the 45-year-old may be looking to draw the curtains on an illustrious career at the Vicente Calderón. The mail reports that the Argentine is interested in sealing a move to the Premier league after the club contacted his representatives. Simeone is open to talks of a switch that will bring him to Stamford Bridge next summer. He has a buy-out clause of £15m, an amount his suitors should not find difficult to part with. His inability to speak English language will be mitigated by the presence of his associate, German Burgos.
