Although some reports are saying it is because the midfielder is not liked by the new manager but some other media outfits are refuting this claim and stating that the sale is just to free up some transfer fees and reduce the wage budget so the club can sort out their finances.
The Brazilian midfielder who already has been capped 52 times for his country has been a pivotal part of the team since signing for the Blues in 2010.
He has scored a total of 37 goals for the Blues in all competitions and has twice been given the award for the goal of the season in Chelsea.
He has been a very important anchor and has seen the Blues through a lot while rescuing them on some occasions. He has sometimes been called the engine room of the team and has played with such commitment and zeal since joining for a reported fee of £18m from Benfica.
However, like many others in the team, his form has been terrible this season and he has the worst record for Chelsea so far this season.
The 28-year-old has featured in only 12 of Chelsea’s 22 league matches this season and has only played the full 90 minutes thrice.
He has scored just two goals so far this season and has seen his performance decline by 14% to last year’s performances already.
It now looks like Chelsea might be ready to let him leave this January, even though he just signed a contract extension to expire in four years time.
He is presently being pursued by top flight clubs like Paris Saint-Germaine and Bayern Munich but the latest reports are saying he does not want to leave the English Premier League and that means he might join Liverpool who are the only ones interested in the English Premier League.
It all remains to be seen what the remaining days of this transfer window will bring.
