The Gunners are currently leading the queue of suitors for the services of the Italian centre-back – who has been an unused substitute in 11 Serie A games for the Bianconeris this term. Rugani is currently behind the likes of Giorgio Chiellini, Leonardo Bonucci and Andrea Barzagli and would jump at the chance to play regular football at Arsenal. The Italian youngster has made just one appearance, coming in a Champions League game against Sevilla.
Italian news outlet claim Arsenal showed interested in signing Rugani in the summer, having caught the eye while playing for Empoli on loan, but the Gunners failed to reach an agreement with Juventus over the transfer.
Rugani, 21, is regarded as one of the brightest starlet in world football and Napoli made a €25m offer for the player in the summer, but Juve turned it down. However, the player’s agent has hinted his client could be tempted by the interests from the Premier League, as per talkSPORT, although they claim Fiorentina are also keen on the centre-back.
A source told Sport Witness a month ago: “Of course, if Arsenal or other important English clubs want to buy him with the right offer, the player will be more than happy to move.
“He has the skill, physique and perfect attitude for the Premier League and will be very happy to play in the United Kingdom for top English teams.”
Rugani is well-built and can suitably replace Per Mertesacker in the Arsenal rearguard. The 31-year German defender is currently 31 and in the waning period of his career.
