One can boldly say the greatest undoing of Arsenal over the course of recent seasons has been the number of injuries their players sustain when they are needed most.
To add to their growing and worrying injury list was Francis Coquelin who limped off Arsenal defeat at the Hawthorns yesterday. He twisted his knees and as typical with the players of Arsenal, he should be out for at the least 12 weeks. With Some reports claiming the Frenchman could be out of the rest of the season. Although Wenger has only confirmed the injury is worst than initially feared.
Last season, Arsenal were impressive in the League as they ended in the third place. Fans and pundits placed Arsenal as favourite for the title this term but not without the signing of a defensive midfielder to compliment the efforts of Francis Coquelin. Alas, Wenger failed to sign any player in the summer bar goalkeeper Petr Cech.
To compound Arsenal’s problem, Arteta came on for Coquelin and picked up an injury but it is the injury of Coquelin that might impede on title ambition of Arsenal. The Number of players injured at Arsenal is now 10 – Wilshere, Welbeck, Rosicky, Chamberlain, Walcott, Ramsey, Arteta and Coquelin.
There were reports in London that Coquelin could very well be out of action until January. If true, it will be safe to write Arsenal off the title as Flamini isn’t capable of putting up same performance as Coquelin. Maybe Wenger will be force to doing business in the January transfer window.
