Arsenal’s Egyptian summer target, Ramadan Sobhy has stated his desire to play for Arsenal if he should move abroad. The Al Ahly playmaker is been dubbed the best young player in Africa and have been recently linked with some top clubs in Europe. Arsenal and Roma were reportedly in the race to sign him last summer until Al Ahly refused to let him leave.
Sobhy was invited to trial at Arsenal in February but Al Ahly refused further negotiations. The 18-year old attacking midfielder have scored 8 goals in 30 matches this term. Sobhy’s impressive performance has also earned him two caps for the Egyptian national team. The youngster is a product of the Al Ahly youth system.
Sobhy is the second youngest player to have played for the Egyptian national side behind Mido, after earning a call up for the African Cup of nations qualifier against Tanzania. He stated his desire to play for Arsenal in an interview with Al Hayah TV. Sobhy said, “my contract with Al Ahly runs for five more years and I only focus on the upcoming matches, if I will sign for Arsenal if the opportunity arrives”.
He also said, ” If there’s an offer and Al Ahly accepts it, it will be great. I would like to play in the English Premier League, and specifically for Arsenal”. The attacking midfielder is very popular in his country and is widely tipped to attain or even surpass the achievements of Mohammed Aboutrika and Ahmed Mido.
