Arsenal have been linked to a host of top players in recent weeks amongst which is Atletico Madrid young midfielder, Saul Niguez. Arsenal coach, Arsene Wenger has himself confirmed the prospects of adding a new player to the list at Arsenal this winter. Arsenal have suffered a lot of injury problems this term and replacement signing may be vital in sustaining the team’s momentum.
Due to the injury to Francis Coquelin and shortage of midfield options, the 21-year old Saul Niguez was lined up and reportedly ready to join Arsenal, but the deal collapsed due to long term injury to Tiago.
Saul has been with Athletico since 2008 and has worked hard to earn himself some reputation at the Vincente Calderon.
According to reports, his agent, Jorge Mendez had arranged a deal for the midfielder, but the deal failed to materialise due to Tiago’s injury.
With the injury problems at Arsenal, The Spaniard is obviously needed. Tiago will be out for four months and Saul has fitted in his role perfectly.
He has started Athletico’s last 3 games and has completed 81% of his passes, creating 3 chances and have won 49% of his tackles. Niguez move to Arsenal may not be possible until the end of the season. Niguez can play as a left, center and right midfielder and has exhibited immense defensive contributions in all matches he has featured this season.
Arsenal will now have to turn to other options. The gunners are reportedly linked with other players like Ruben Neves, William Carvalho, Sergi Samper and Victor Wanyama.
