Arsenal are reportedly in talks to sign Nigerian teenage sensation, Victor Osimhen. The young forward has been linked with so many clubs since his exploits in the FIFA U17 World Cup. Osimhen scored 10 goals in 7 matches to break the record of the highest number of goals scored in a single competition that was previously held by France’s Sinama Pongolle and Ivorian Souleymane Coulibaly.
Osimhen who will soon turn 17, in an interview with the BBC said “The trip to Wolfsburg was interesting and I will be visiting Arsenal too but am not in a rush. I know I cannot sign a contract right now, but the trip to Germany and hopefully to England will give me a great opportunity to see things clearly.”
This will be bad news to Chelsea fans as the Blues have also been linked to his signature but it appears it is Arsenal who will be winning the race to sign him.
According to FIFA rules, Osimhen won’t be able to sign a professional contract until he is 18. The player who turns17 on the 29th of December currently plays for Ultimate Strikers FC of Lagos. He is scheduled to visit Arsenal soon, with the English team reportedly top amongst teams most likely to secure his signature.
The striker also told BBC sports about his next steps, he said, “Its easy to hear different things from people about what they think is good for my career and I really appreciate that.
“But I still have time to decide and I want to make the right choice that will create the paths to fulfill my potential and achieve bigger things in the future.”
Osimhen was part of the Nigerian side that won the U23 African Cup of Nations and also qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil. Osimhen was also nominated for the CAF youth player of the year alongside four others.
