Chelsea fans know for a fact that their side needs January reinforcements to save them from their disastrous season so far but are confused as to who could be ready to join their fast sinking ship with manager Jose Mourinho at the helm of affairs making it apparent that Chelsea will have to settle for some lesser names if they want new additions by January.
However, there are still big name signings out there for the Blues if they look well enough at options available.
The following five players are therefore additions that they could secure in January if they really mean to get out of this predicament.
The 30-year-old Paris Saint-Germain winger could be on the move in January. The player’s contract runs out at the end of the season and the French side will want to at least secure a reasonable fee and not lose him to a free transfer especially with reports suggesting that Barcelona are ready to pounce on him if that happens.
However, if Chelsea could move for the player in January with the offer of regular first-team football which Lavezzi needs, he might jump on the Chelsea wagon. Playing second-string to a front trio of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani and Angel Di Maria isn’t keeping him happy and that will not change at Barca, so he will opt for Chelsea.
Marquinhos isn’t happy playing reserve to David Luiz and Thiago Silva in Paris, whilst it’s clear he’d get first-team opportunities at Chelsea due to their woeful defensive record at the moment and John Terry leaving at the end of the season.
Chelsea are already monitoring the Porto midfielder Ruben Neves, who recently became the youngest captain in Champions League history.
Arsenal and Liverpool are also after the 18-year-old sensation but Mourinho’s links in Portugal could work to Chelsea’s advantage.
This is a player that might prefer Chelsea as they already said to be leading the race for the 19-year-old Serbian international, with the crucial aspect being suggestions that they will send the teenager back on-loan to Red Star Belgrade.
Chelsea have strong links with Red Star and this can only work in their favour.
Jose Mourinho was at Ukraine’s clash with Spain during the recent international break, allegedly watching Andriy Yarmolenko and the striker must have known this.
He might be ready to leave Dynamo Kiev and if that is the case, I think he might prefer Chelsea to the other clubs after him.
What do you think?
