The 19-year-old Serbian has drawn attraction from top European clubs including Manchester United, Inter Milan but Chelsea have offered £2.5 million for the services of the anchor man and they will attempt to complete the deal in Janaury.
The tough-tackling defender is believed to have signed a new contract with Red Star Belgrade during the summer. It is believed that will remain at his club or be loaned to Vitesse upon the completion of the deal by Chelsea.
The major attraction for the Serbian youngster to Chelsea is his compatriots in Matic and Ivanovic. Given his height and style of play, he has been dubbed as a typical replica of or new Nemanja Matic.
Over the last decade, there has been the influx of Serbians into the Premier League and they have been relatively successful. Mitrovic, Tadic and other Chelsea stars have consistently proven their mettle as world class footballers. The expectation for the world cup U20 winner is certainly high.
He will be a massive buy for Chelsea if they successful land him. Mikel Obi, Ramires and Matic have been on the decline and signing the star at this season will be good for Chelsea.
