Daily Express reports that Chelsea have lined up a fresh £40 million offer for Everton defender John Stones. The report comes just hours before Chelsea’s loss at Leicester. The Blues are reported to be planning a January swoop for the England international.
The 21 year old was heavily linked with Chelsea during the summer and was reported to have handed Everton a transfer request but the latter were determined to hold onto one of their most priced assets. Stones had three bids from Chelsea for him rejected by Everton with the last bid reportedly about £30 million, but it seems Jose Mourinho has not given up on getting his man.
It is reported that Manchester United are also interested in Stones, but Chelsea appears to be taking the initiative and will likely step up their pursuit of the young center back after another loss to Leicester which now leaves them languishing in 16th place and one point above relegation. Earlier this month, Everton manager Roberto Martinez claimed he doesn’t fear a renewed bid for his defender.
Stones has worked his way into the England senior team and gotten a handful of call ups. The defender has won 19/35 tackles and has completed 89% of his passes this season
