The Sun reports that the Gunners have made their move to sign Gabonese striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from German giants, Borussia Dortmund. According to the Sun, they made their move via an intermediary and they have been quoted a price of £42 million which is marginally lower than the £42.5 million record fee they paid Real Madrid to bring Mesut Ozil to the Emirates.
Feelers are, Arsenal are willing to pay the said amount for the 26-year-old striker who has plundered 18 goals as well as giving 4 assists in just 17 matches in the league this season. According to the reports, Dortmund will accept the bid if the player himself tell them he wants out.
His numbers better that of Bayern Munich’s Polish striker, Robert Lewandowski (15 goals, 1 assist) who many consider as the best striker in the world.
The player will give Arsene Wenger different options as he can play as a winger or a striker and will help to ease some of the injury worries the Gunners have faced this season. His speed will also be an asset to the Arsenal team and his overall style of play dovetails brilliantly with the Gunners’. His signing will be a major boost to the Gunners bid to end a 12-year wait for the title.
The player started his career at AC Milan where he was loaned out to French teams including Dijon, Lille and Monaco before sealing a permanent move to St Etienne in 2011. The player played for the France U-21 team before switching his allegiance to Gabon in 2009 making his international debut in the same year. He has since represented Gabon at 3 AFCON tournaments as well as the London 2012 Olympics.
However, if reports in the English press is anything to go by, Chelsea may be preparing to hijack Arsenal’s move for the player. According to reports, if Chelsea can not get Alex Teixeria, they will go in for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang which will be a bad news for Arsenal.
