Even while Jose Mourinho was still at the helms of Chelsea’s affair, Alex Texeira had begun talks of transfer to Stamford Bridge. He had revealed his admiration for Chelsea and admitted that the he dreams of playing for Chelsea.
He has now agreed to join Chelsea in a £30 million deal according to the Daily Star. The deal with Shaktar will be completed in January and he will be expected to slot into the plan of Hiddinks immediately.
Texeira plays behind the striker in Shakhtar Donetsk but he has become more prolific than the attackers of his club. He is arguably the most prolific attacking midfielder in Europe at the moment. He’s scored 26 goals in 25 games in all competitions.
In Chelsea, Texeira can play behind the striker or as the striker. He will offer more threat for Chelsea up front as they have been a low scoring side this season.
Chelsea poor season has been partly attributed to the failing of their strikers and they have been tipped to see the underproductive strikers to make way for assured attacker.
However, having played for Shakhtar in the Champions League, Texeira will be ineligible to play for Chelsea when they continue with their Champions League campaign in February next year.
