Arsenal midfielder, Jack Wilshere is on the verge of agreeing a new contract with the club, according to Football Insider. His previous contract is set to expire in two and a half years, but with this contract renewal, the midfielder has further committed his future to the club with an extension until 2021.
The renewal also saw a raise in his wage bill from £90,000 up to £110,000 per week. The improved pay package is meant to keep the player at the club and avoid being instigated to push for a transfer. The 23-year-old talismanic playmaker was sought after last season by both Manchester United and Manchester City, but Arsenal held close to their prize.
Negotiations on renewing the contract have been on for quite a while now with fears in certain quarters that such talks might collapse. However, both parties are now fully assured that a deal will soon be finalized very soon.
Wilshere has endured a fair share of niggling injuries that have kept him out of action for a full season- he is just recovering from a fracture to his left fibula. Despite this, Arsene Wenger has reposed great confidence in the England international and believes he can regain the form that shot him to limelight and stardom.
The new improved pay package puts Jack Wilshere in the band of second highest earners in the club alongside Aaron Ramsey and Theo Walcott. The trio are behind only Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez in the current salary scale at the Emirates. Both the German and the Chilean internationals earn a bumper pay of £130,000- the former is seeking an upward review to £180,000, an amount that will make him Arsenal’s highest paid player ever (perhaps, deservedly so, given his performance and assists this season).
