Arsenal are eyeing a January pillage on Genoa for their prized asset Diego Perotti and, Calciomercato have claimed the Gunners’ chiefs have held talks with the agent of the player over a switch to the Emirates.
Perotti has been a pivotal player for Genoa, having joined from Sevilla 18 months ago. The two-time capped Argentina international has started 10 Serie A games for Genoa so far this season.
The 27-year old’s talent has not gone unnoticed in the Serie A too, as AC Milan and Inter Milan are keeping tabs on the player, as the Italian source would suggest. Having said that, Arsenal have been installed as favourites to sign Perotti after the Gunners’ reps allegedly met the player’s agent and also watched the player in action against Naoli earlier this month.
“Despite Milan’s interest, Arsenal are the club most interested in Perotti,” the report read.
“Representatives of the Gunners were present with his agent for the game against Napoli. A positive relationship has been made, Arsene Wenger is ready to make a move. Arsenal remain in pole position.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal’s reported interest in Perotti could change following the report that the Gunners number one defensive midfielder Francis Coquelin has been ruled out for action for close to three months. Hence, Coquelin’s injury makes the need for a new attacking player superfluous.
Perotti is an attack-minded player who can play as a number 10 or out wide. Arsenal could be looking to bring in a player in the ilk of the injured Coquelin and not another attacker, as the squad is already littered with creative players.
