The Gunners were not just being uncharacteristically poor in the Premier League match of penultimate weekend; three key players suffered injuries as confirmed by Arsene Wenger.
Alexis Sanchez suffered a hamstring in the second half and was taken off, Koscielny had a hip injury few minutes after the game started and was replace by Gabriel while Santi Cazorla picked up a knee injury but could not be substituted as Arsenal already made all their changes.
After the match Wenger said:
“We have three [injuries] because Cazorla played on one leg for the final part of the second half and he has a knee problem, Sanchez has a hamstring problem and Koscielny has a hip problem” explained the Arsenal manager. “How bad it is, I do not know, we have to see that tomorrow.”
The rate at which Arsenal players pick up injuries is alarming. The presence of Sanchez, Koscielny and Cazorla in the Gunners squad cannot be overly emphasized.
Before last weekend’s game, Welbeck, and Walcott have been on the sideline and this latest injuries means Arsenal are without depth especially in the attack.
Sadly, the injuries to these players might impede on their title ambition. Sanchez has been a mainstay in the attack of Arsenal. He has started 18 out of 19 games for Arsenal and Wenger must take responsibility for his injury problem given the fact that he wasn’t available for pre-season and the signs of an injury were glaring.
However, Sanchez is now said to be on his way back to the team ahead of this weekend’s Sanchez. The Chilean according to reports has declared himself fit and is in line to play for Arsenal this weekend though he will miss tomorrow’s clash against Olympiakos.
