Turkish side Besiktas have confirmed their interest in Arsenal goal keeper David Ospina, Besiktas have chased the Colombian international in the summer after it became clear Arsenal have signed Peter Chech from Chelsea to become their (Arsenal’s) number 1 keeper, but failed to sign him as an agreement was not reached between the two club’s then.
The besiktas vice president Ahmet Nur Cebi said:
“We are interested in ospina.”
“Him and goalkeepers of his caliber, but just because we want him does not mean he will come. We have to agree with his club and take his contract into consideration.”
The Colombian international has now become a peripheral figure at the emirates after a promising start to life in the English premier league. But since the arrival of former Chelsea shot stopper peter chech, ospina has gone down the pecking order playing number 2 to Peter Chech.
Though he was active deputy in cup competitions, ospina has since lost the opportunity of starting for the gunners in cup competitions after a ghastly error in the champions league defeat to olympiacos in September. He has been restricted to just 3 starts this season, though his shoulder injury was a factor.
3 months since his last arsenal appearance ospina has been an unused substitute for the gunners in their last 6 games. Ospina isn’t guaranteed regular involvement now or in the future in Arsenal’s game’s as peter chech isn’t under any pressure from the Colombian international.
Reports have shown that the Colombian internal wants to move as his future with the London club is uncertain and if an agreement is met between arsenal and besiktas then ospina should well be on his way to turkey.
But it is highly unlikely ospina would be allowed to leave at least not until the summer transfer window as both Wojciech Szczesny and Emi Martinez are out on loan at Roma and Wolves respectively.
