In what will come as a surprise to most football fans and pundits, Arsenal are set to make a shock transfer offer for Watford captain, Troy Deeney. This news will not get the Arsenal fans excited as they had been hoping for the club to sign a big name striker who is sure to be an upgrade on the club’s current options in the striking position, most fans obviously believe Deeney is not in that league and is probably not in any way better than what they have at the moment.
The only reasonable explanation if Arsenal were to complete this deal will be that Arsene Wenger sees the English man as capable cover for his top two options in the striking position in the shape of, Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott. If any of the two strikers get injured, Arsenal will be left with only one striker and you can’t trust Walcott to stay fit. Joel Campbell and Alexis Sanchez can also play up front if the situation demands, but that will mean the gunners will be one player short on the wings. With the matches coming thick and fast, Deeney seems like a sensible signing.
Deeney has played in all Watford matches in the league this season, recording a modest 6 goals and 5 assists and the muted £20m fee seems a tad too much for a 27-year old who is playing in the top division for the first time.
