Arsenal have received a knock-out blow in the pursuit of Napoli goal poacher Gonzalo Higuain, after the player’s agent ruled out the possibility of any high-profile swoop, as per the Daily Star.
The Gunners have been linked with a mega money deal for the Argentinian striker, who is valued at £68m by Napoli, as revealed in the report.
Higuain has been in superb form for the Naples outfit this term, bagging 11 goals in 15 appearances and helping the club to four straight victories in the Europa League this season.
His brilliant form has now prompted interest from the Gunners, who were linked with a late minute swoop for the former Real Madrid striker in the summer.
But Higuain’s brother who also doubles as his agent, Nicolas Higuain has dismissed the possibility of any big money move for the 27-year old striker.
“Gonzalo scored his 200th goal as a professional on Sunday, reaching an important figure,” Nicolas told Radio Crc.
“Three years ago Gonzalo chose Napoli and you can see how much this club means to him by what he is doing on the pitch.
“His dream, since the first day he set foot on Naples, is to win the Scudetto with Napoli.”
Higuain has also been linked with a reunion with Jose Mourinho at Chelsea – with the Blues’ strikers clearly struggling to hit form this season. Mourinho coached Higuain at the Santiago Bernabeu and the two enjoyed a good working relationship.
However, how this pans out in the long run remains to be seen as Higuain would no doubt relish the prospect of playing in the Premier League.
