Greg Neville: I don’t think Spain’s 0-1 loss to Switzerland did Honduras any favors as the Spaniards will be desperate to get their World Cup campaign back on track. Villa and co will not want to leave anything to chance going into their last group match against Chile so must win and win well. They may have slipped behind Argentina and Brazil as Cup favorites but I still believe this group of superstars can go deep – hopefully they can still avoid a round of 16 clash with Brazil. Spain win 3-0.
Ron Patel: Spain was rather unlucky not to at least tie Switzerland, given the European champs had chance after chance. Look for Spain to rebound, and in comfortable fashion, against a Honduran side just happy to be in the tournament. Given goal difference could be a factor in this group, I think the Spaniards won’t take mercy on their opponents. 4-0 it is.
Alex Michaels: Beware the wounded lion, and poor Honduras could certainly be on the receiving end of a Spanish backlash following the pre-tournament favourites’ shock defeat at the hands of the Swiss. The European champions paid the price for not turning their early dominance into goals in their opening game, and the Hondurans will do well to keep them out as well as the Swiss did. Torres has had another week to get fit and recover his sharpness, and just as we hoped they would light up the tournament then, maybe they will do now. The second group matches have been full of surprises at this tournament, but it would be a total shock if there was another one here.
Frank Finnegan: I agree with my colleagues on this one – Honduras will pay the price for Spain’s disappointing outing against Switzerland. El Furia Roja will pass the Hondurans dizzy and this time around will finish much more effectively. 3-0 Spain, as they fight uphill to avoid 2nd place in the group and a round of 16 date with Brazil.
Peter Howard: If the Spanish performance in a 1-0 loss to the Swiss wasn’t enough of a wake up call, Spain would be wise to have seen how other favorites like Italy and England have stumbled. This is a must-win match for the Spanish. Honduras is a great story, and qualified in dramatic fashion, but that counts for little once the teams get on the World Cup pitch. Spain will rise up, and record a 2-0 win.
