Louis van Gaal has once again reiterated his desire to add pace to the Red Devils’ wings just like he said upon his arrival. The Dutchman brought in fellow compatriot, Memphis Depay from PSV during the Summer transfer window in order to fulfill his wish of explosive flanks, but the 22 year-old is yet to deliver and has been subsequently dropped to the bench as a result.
LVG has however opted to go for another countryman of his in Bayern Munich’s Arjen Robben, and he is ready to bring the former Chelsea winger to the Theatre of Dreams by January. Reports say both Bayern and United have reached an agreement over the transfer of the 31 year-old to Old Trafford once the Winter transfer window opens.
The versatile winger has also been in LVG’s plans, and after their successful time together at the national team that saw Netherlands win bronze at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, it was only a matter of time before both reunited at club level. Robben’s frequent injury woes has seen him lose his spot to Brazil international, Douglas Costa who has become Guardiola’s favorite since he arrived from Shakhtar in Summer.
A move continues to look certain, as he is now being considered a surplus to requirements. He will no doubt come as a quality addition to the United squad if a move eventually works out. The United team lack Champions League experience due to the new arrivals and young players, Robben will come as an added advantage in Europe if he is acquired, and Van Gaal will be hoping to land him as early as the January window opens.
