Southampton and Senegalese star Sadio Mane will today hold talks with his club’s Dutch manager Ronald Koeman over reports linking him with a move away from the South Coast side.
The 23-year old former Red Bull Salzburg forward has been linked with European giants such as Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Chelsea though Southampton are adamant he is not for sale.
Southampton are presently enduring a barren spell after managing just one win in their last nine matches in all competitions with the latest defeat coming at Carrow Road in a 1-0 reverse against Alex Neil’s Norwich City.
The defeat was however overshadowed by the omission of Mane from the starting line-up as punishment for missing a pre-match meeting though he would not be fined.
His immediate conduct is the latest in the series of incidents namely lateness for pre-match meetings and lack of focus in training prompting suggestions he is holding out for a move during the January transfer window.
Speaking on Mane’s situation via The Times, key Southampton midfielder Steven Davis said: “He is an important player for us.”
“Sadio is the type of player who can create something out of nothing and there’s not too many of them around. He plays a massive role. That was the decision the manager made, and everybody within the squad knows the situation regarding that.” he further added.
