The international break’s curse resurfaced its ugly head once again as United lost France international, Anthony Martial to an injury that has threatened to keep the forward out of action until next year. The Red Devils have enjoyed the great form of the former AS Monaco forward since he arrived during the closing stages of the Summer transfer window, and his absence will no doubt come as a huge blow to their season aspirations this term. The 19 year-old picked up a foot injury in a friendly against England in Wembley on Tuesday and is set to undergo a scan in order for United’s medical team to determine how long he would spend to recuperate.
Martial was seen leaving the stadium on crutches after the match when he had earlier been removed on the 67th minute. The left winger as usual gave glimpses of his brilliance and was close to getting goals in an emotional match that ended 2 – 0 in favour of the Three Lions. The French medical team couldn’t assess the level of the foot injury and United doctors fear that it could be a metatarsal injury. Such injury means Martial won’t be available for selection until 2016, leaving United’s front short of quality attacking options.
The teenage sensation has been an integral part of the Red Devils team since he made his debut against Liverpool where he got a goal. He already has 3 League goals, and has been involved in all of United’s Champions League games, notching a goal in the game against against CSKA Moscow. Didier Deschamps has involved the former Monaco in his preparations for the Euros next year and he has already made 6 international appearances for Les Blues. Martial will hope to recover on time to help United who will no doubt miss his presence, and most importantly get fit enough to make his debut senior team appearance at a major tournament.
