Manchester United are still in a state of jubilation from their 3-0 away win at Goodison Park, where they obviously controlled most of the match, got a clean sheet and gained three points to move to the third place in the English Premier League.
CSKA Moscow are the opponents that await United in their next match tonight in the Champions League group stage match, and will look to spoil the momentum that the Red Devils have going on.
Here is how United should therefore line up against Moscow.
David De Gea
Of course, number 1 goalkeeper will have to continue in between the posts for United in this all important fixture away from Old Trafford. De Gea, along with Smalling and Herrera, was the other standout player against Everton.
Right Back- Matteo Darmian
Although Darmain could be rested as van Gaal may look to keep some of his players fresh ahead of the City clash, but considering that this match is equally very important, if not even more, then Darmian should man the right side of the back four.
Central Defender- Chris Smalling and Phil Jones
Smalling is certainly having a breakout season and cannot be benched at the moment if Van Gaal does not want trouble and he would likely be paired by Jones who looks to have put his current injury crisis behind him. Daley Blind had filled in very well, but the more physical Jones is the natural central defender.
Left Back-Marcos Rojo
Rojo had a fine game at Goodison Park, assisting Herrera’s header with asuperb cross. He will get tired of course with United contending in multiple cups but will have to do his as the are no other available left-back options in the squad at the moment.
Central Midfielder- Morgan Schneiderlin
The former Southampton man scored his first goal for United against Everton and certainly deserves to feature again today. Although he might have to be paired with Michael Carrick in keeping with the rotation that van Gaal has been applying in central midfield. The experience of Carrickcannot be underestimated on the big European nights like this one.
Right Wing- Juan Mata
Although he was subbed over the weekend, Mata should return back the the starting 11, as he has been one of the standout attacking players this season. He’ll certainly look to pick up an assist or score a crucial goal to make sure a halftime substitution will not happen again.
Attacking Midfielder- Ander Herrera
Herrera added the missing quality to United’s attack against Everton and he provided the much needed pace and craftiness to the United midfield, and with his performance over the weekend, he is a shoo in for the Champions League match
Left Wing- Wayne Rooney
Besides Memphis Depay, Rooney has also. been terrible for United so far this season. However, he was way better against Everton and have to play from the left wing. Memphis could be a decent option though as he has played well so far for the Red Devils in the Champions League, but it’ll be tough to drop United’s captain after he had just scored. But Van Gaal may want to rest Rooney a bit for the Manchester City clash.
Striker- Anthony Martial
Martial, who was deployed to the wing in the weekend game will have to move back to the front so that he can net some much needed goals for himself and the club.
All we have to do now is wait and see what Van Gaal and his boys will do tonight.
