According to the Mirror, former Liverpool striker insists he would choose Jose Mourinho as Manchester United’s next manager over Pep Guardiola, given the success the Portuguese has already achieved in England.
It is no secret that both tacticians have been tipped for the Manchester United job, ESPN FC believe mourinho will replace Louis Van Gaal as United boss while Guardiola on the other hand was tipped by News Talk as the a potential replacement should Van Gaal leave United In the summer.
Mourinho though out of job after a woeful stint this season with Chelsea has insisted he is not taking a break from coaching and he is open to coaching. While Pep Guadiola has announced the decision about his future insisting that he will not renew his contract with the Bundesliga champions.
Both managers are arguably the most successful duo in modern football with Pep having an outstanding track record after winning 14 trophies in only 4 seasons with Barcelona, the only other manager who won 14 trophies during his time with barca is Johan Cruyff. While Cruyff made his record in 10 years Guardiola made his in just 4 years. But Despite his (Guardiola) track record the former Liverpool man (Collymore) has offered mourinho his backing.
He said “Yes, Guardiola won three titles in Spain and the champion’s league twice in a wonderful spell as manager of Barca. He is fastidious and will arrive in the premier league having done his homework and completely up to speed, but Mourinho has the edge because he knows what it takes to win the English crown. Mourinho also knows that tiki-taka football alone won’t guarantee success here and were United to make the ruthless decision to get the deal done then it would once again make them the most attractive proposition in Manchester.”
