When Jurgen Klopp stated that he is content with the composition of his squad; that he had confidence in his current crop of players and so, there was absolutely no need to further strengthen his team, he perhaps didn’t fully appreciate the nature of the challenge he is facing. The stuttering form of his side, and more specifically the 3-0 thrashing they suffered in the hands of Watford, is a necessary curtain-raiser that just begins to unveil the enormity of task at hand. It only confirms that the honeymoon is over, and it is time to face the business of marriage.
After capturing their first signature in the Klopp era- the signing of Red Star Belgrade midfielder, Marco Grujic- the Merseysiders are looking forward to a very busy and active winter transfer window. Their involvement is imposed not only by the form of the team, but also by the injury crisis plaguing a number of players. And now with the completion of the Grujic deal, it is reported that attention will be turned to bringing in Germany and Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan.
According to sports journalist, Artur Petrosyan, Klopp will seek to bring in Gundogan from the Bundesliga side. The 25-year-old German international was an integral part of Klopp’s set up at Dortmund and has continued to flourish at the club after the manager left. Gundogan’s contract at Signal Iduna runs until June 2017, but he is said to have attracted attention from Liverpool and Juventus, according to Calcio Mercato.
Liverpool needs a whole lot of inspiration and confidence going forward, something the midfielder exudes. He has an 88 percent passing accuracy record and has created 18 chances this season in the Bundesliga. Gundogan will prove to would be a valuable buy for Liverpool if they can land him at Anfield given that he understands the nitty-gritty of Klopp’s playing philosophy and methods, and can as well command the midfield efficiently and effectively.
