It has been established that Manchester United are ready to reopen talks with Borussia Dortmund over the transfer of German midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan with a possible switch to Manchester United to be made next summer. Manchester United have earlier shown interest in signing Ilkay Gundogan in previous season but the deal failed over time.
This rumour makes sense in that there have been rumours that Maroune Fellaini may be on his way out of Manchester United this winter especially as there are reports that AC Milan are very keen on signing him.
Ilkay Gundogan joined Borussia Dortmund from 1.FC Nurnberg in the year 2011 and he has gone on to establish himself as part and parcel of the team until he got a back injury in 2013. The back injury kept him out of the team for about a year. He has netted 9 times in 97 appearances for the German side. He has also been capped 16 times by the German senior national team.
The Daily Express expressed that the Red Devils want him next summer as his contract will be nearing expiration by then so that they can sign him at a bargain price; however, he might not be available by then as Italian champions Juventus are planning to seal off a deal for the 25-year old German midfielder this January. Manchester United city rivals, Manchester City, are also rumored to be interested in signing Ilkay Gundogan.
Though Manchester United are not lacking powerful and experienced players in the middle of the park, the availability of a talented and powerful midfielder like Ilkay Gundogan could make them reevaluate their options and they may launch a bid earlier than planned.
