For pundits, fans and football enthusiast familiar with the transfer dealings of Manchester United in the summer, they will recall that Nicola Gaitan was on the radar of the Red Devils.
Reports have emerged that the player has agreed to put pen to paper to extend his stay at the Estadio da Luz until the summer of 2019. The deal as reported has a £45 million release clause inserted and this has put to rest United interest of signing the player.
The announcement was made on the official twitter handle of the club.

Benfica signed the Argentine from Boca Junior in the summer of 2010 as a replacement for Angel Di Maria who switched to Real Madrid as at that time.
The gradually imposed himself on the team and has become a key figure for the club.
Meanwhile, United were actively involved in the summer transfer market but most of their acquisitions were midfield players and they are now looking to bolster their thin attack.
United are have been relatively poor this term and they need to bolster their squad if they must contest of the title.
The Red Devils have the best defensive record in the League but their attack has been completely different. They have been failing to score goals. With Gaitan obvious not coming to United, they have will have to look for options elsewhere.
