Reports have resurfaced about Manchester United summer transfer target Benfica’s Nicolas Gaitan. The player will perennially be linked to United as far as he is still playing actively, according to the report; Gaitan’s move to Manchester was practically sealed.
It was reported that United and Benfica had agreed a €30 million deal for the player, which was €5 million short of his release clause – however, Gaitan was greeted with boos in his supposed final match for the Portuguese outfit and was terribly disappointed at the club’s misdemeanor.
To the dismay of the player, the deal didn’t go through without any justification as it was concluded that United didn’t meet the end of their bargain. The 27-year-old Argentina midfielder would provide quality to United if they sign him.
Amidst keen interest also from Atletico Madrid, Benfica have handed the player a pay rise to be able to milk out as much cash as they can when United or Atletico comes for the player in January. The Portuguese club obviously wants more money that his valuation.
There is no telling if United will complete the deal for the player in Janaury or during the winter. Gaitan is a versatile midfielder and forward and would provide Van Gaal with more options on the flank and in the creative middle of the park.
