Chelsea coach, Guus Hiddink has confirmed that Chelsea are gearing up to seal a January deal for Jackson Martinez as he finds means to change the fortune of the West London club as the second half of the season begins.
Jackson Martinez has been surplus to requirement at Atletico Madrid in recent weeks as he has failed to impress Diego Simone at the beginning of the season. The 29-year old has scored just twice in 12 games for the Madrid-based club this season and he might be offloaded anytime soon. Chelsea has, therefore, shown interest in signing the Colombian as they look to replace out-off-form striker, Diego Costa.
Jackson Martinez moved to Atletico Madrid from FC Porto last summer in a £25.8 million deal and his transfer was expected to see him become a regular for Atletico Madrid, but he failed to establish himself at the Spanish side; hence, his move to another club is imminent at this stage. Arsenal were thought to be the team to lure him away from Portugal last summer, but the Madrid-based club moved swiftly to seal a deal for the Colombia international.
According to Metro, Jackson Martinez’s agent, Henrique Pompeo revealed that Chelsea are interested in signing him to boost their UEFA Champions league qualification chances and he said a deal could happen soon so as to save his client from his current troubles which has seen him become a regular figure on the bench for the Vicente Calderon outfits.
