Januzaj, 20, has started just two games for Dortmund since moving there in August and that has prompted United to reassess the Belgian’s situation, as claimed by the report.
United boss Louis van Gaal had hoped Januzaj would get some valuable experience while playing for Die Borussen, but that has not been the case as seven of his nine appearances has come from the bench.
Van Gaal has reportedly claimed his squad are already feeling the effects of a long and hard campaign and the Dutch tactician thinks Januzaj will get more game time if he returns to the Theatre of Dreams in the New Year.
Januzaj began the season for United, and scored the winning goal for Man United in the 1-0 win over Aston Villa. However, Ashley Young and summer recruit Memphis Depay have both been disappointing on the wings for the Red Devils since Januzaj’s departure.
Meanwhile, the Mirror claim United’s hopes of sealing an early return for Januzaj hinges on whether Dortmund agrees to their request.
Januzaj refused to play for the Belgium Under-21s last week after being dropped from the senior team. His hopes of now featuring in the European championships next year is hanging by a thread and a bench role at Dortmund will certainly not help his cause.
