United have been left impotent in attack after the sale of Robin Van Persie and Chicharito and they are keen on Mainz 05 forward Yoshinori Muto, this is according to reports.
The 23-year-old striker joined his current club in the summer of this year from FC Toyko and has imposed himself in the club as a key player. Despite being in his first season, the 23-year-old has scored seven goals in17 appearances for the club.
United have had their scout watched Muto and they have asked Van Gaal to go for him. It is understood that United former manager Sir Alex Ferguson has also recommended that the player be signed, per Daily Star.
United have struggled in attack this season. They are the least scoring side on the League log among the top six placed team on the table. Rooney just returned from injury and Martial is struggling form at the moment and United are looking to use the January market to sign reinforments.
However, it is unlikely that Muto will be allowed to leave Mainz in the same season he signed but possibilities abound in the transfer market.
Should Muto complete the deal to United in January, he will play as the centre forward and Martial moved to the flank with Rooney asked to play from the middle of the pack.
