According to reports from Chelsea camp, Full-back Cesar Azpilicueta has suffered a double cheek fracture in the last league game against Crystal Palace. The Spaniard took a crunching blow on the 4th minute of the game when he collided with Frazier Campbell.
After the incident with Frazier Campbell, Azpilicueta still managed to play after receiving shot treatment, but now the reports states that he suffered a double-cheek fracture so he will be rested for the weekend’s FA cup tie.
Even though a double-cheek fracture isn’t really a serious case, it is believed Guus Hiddink wants to take extra care of the defender as he has been the standout defender for Chelsea all season even when they were in horrendous form.
When the Full-back returns to action, we might see him wear the infamous protective gear or black mask that other Chelsea players have used in the past. The likes of John Terry, Fernando Torres, Nemanja Matic, and Ramires have all played with this protective mask at some point in their Chelsea careers and we wouldn’t be surprised if Azpilicueta does the same.
The 26 year old Spanish international has flourished since joining the blues from Marseille in 2012, he has mainly featured as a Left-back for Chelsea a position which isn’t his favourite as he is naturally a Right-back.
However he has grown to be a regular starter for Chelsea in the left back position and he has since made over 101 appearances for blues in what has been a successful spell.
