Manchester United are ready to sign a replacement for out of form striker, Wayne Rooney. According to reports, United will make a move for Japanese international striker Yoshinari Muto in the January transfer window. The reports states that United have been eyeing the former Tokyo FC striker who currently plays in the German Bundesliga for Mainz.
The 23-year old Japanese have been in great form since moving to Germany in the summer. Muto have scored 7 goals in 16 Bundesliga appearances this season and doesn’t look ready to stop scoring. Chelsea were reportedly all over the Japanese last summer but a deal never materialized. Some reports claim United have had a bid of £10 million accepted for the young striker.
Muto isn’t just a great finisher, he also possesses great pace, something that has been lacking in United’s attack all season. The Red Devils have only managed 22 league goals in 18 matches and have failed to muster out a win in their last 7 matches in all competition. United have found unlocking the opposition’s defence very difficult and have found goal scoring even more difficult.
United’s top striker and captain, Wayne Rooney has completely been out of form and has been severely criticised for his contributions this season, Van Gaal ultimately bowed to pressure on boxing day by dropping the England international on the bench in the game against Stoke. Rooney have only scored 2 league goals this season, while Anthony Martial has bagged 5 but have consistently suffered from inconsistency.
United are expected to complete the signing of the Japanese in few weeks so as to ease the pressure on Anthony Martial, who has singly carried the burdens of United’s goal scoring problems. Martial joined United after a big money move from Monaco. Martial is regarded as the most expensive youngster in world football.
