For the expectant fans of Arsenal, the wait for the official announcement of a deal for Mohamed Elneny of FC Basel seems to be in the offing after the Oliver Giroud confirmed that a deal is ongoing for the Egyptian, this is according to reports.
Arsenal are not only atop the Premier League table, they have been tipped as favourite to clinch the title. However, they title ambition might be impeded upon if they fail to bolster their thin squad. the Gunners are currently without five of their first team midfielders.
It has been widely reported that Elneny had agreed a deal in a fee believed to be around £7 million for a four-and-a-half-year contract. He has reportedly undergone medical even though the deal is yet to be made public.
There are reports that the impressive midfield stalwart is already a Gunner but the deal is being delayed as the player is yet to secure work permit.
To clear the air on a deal for the 23-year-old Egyptian, Oliver Giroud was quizzed about Arsenal’s new signing and he said:
“I know that maybe we sign a player, An Egyptian one…”
Elneny will come in to the squad of Arsenal as a first choice player this January. He can play as a defensive midfielder, and a central midfielder. His tiki-taka style will see him bed-in on time at Arsenal and form a strong bond with Ozil.
