After they had three bids knocked back by Everton, Chelsea are concluding plans to go back to the merseysiders with a 4th bid for their highly promising center half, John Stones. They are poised to increase their bid to £50 million and this will surely test Everton’s resolve to hold on to the England International.
The defender will be expected to help shore up a defence which has already conceded 29 goals in just 20 matches and lie 14th in the table after a disastrous start to the season. The Blues’ hierarchy see him as a potential replacement for captain John Terry, who has shown signs that his age is finally catching up with him.
Chelsea though, will have a battle on their hands as Manchester United is known to have a serious interest in the player. The Red Devils have gone through tough times this season and will hope they have recovered after registering their first win in eight matches with the 2-1 victory over Welsh club, Swansea City at Old Trafford. The Red Devils see the defender as very similar to Rio Ferdinand with his calmness under pressure and ability to bring the ball out of the defence. They want him to form a solid partnership with Chris Smalling.
The defender has made 18 appearances in the league for Everton this season. Should Chelsea sign him, Real Madrid and Manchester United would have both been linked to his signing will have lost out on his signing.
