Bayern Munich have reportedly joined the race to sign Southampton’s forward, Sadio Mane. This is days after news emerged that Southampton have accepted a £29 million bid from United for the player. The 23-year old has been strongly linked to Manchester United in the last few weeks, while it was also reported that Chelsea have shown interest. Daily Star have now reported that both English teams have been joined by the German giants.
The Senegalese has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford and has even been reportedly approached by United’s representatives. The Red Devils coach, Louis Van Gaal is desperately keen on adding more attackers to his numbers at Old Trafford, a report which has further sparked speculations linking Mane to the Club.
Van Gaal will now face stiff competition from the German side as fresh reports of their interest on the player have now emerged. Mane is also said to be interested in a move away from the St Marys, but it is unsure if the club is willing to listen to offers this January.
The Senegalese international’s contract is scheduled to run until 2018 and Southampton coach Ronald Koeman, has stated his desire to keep the striker at the club. Koeman has expected him to stay, but may now be forced to let him leave as he has recently questioned the player’s commitment to the Club, after the loss to Norwich.
The Dutchman lashed out at the Mane and Victor Wanyama, who got a red card for a clumsy challenge he never had to make. Blasting the 23-year old, Koeman said, “I don’t understand a player who is coming late to the last meeting and my message to Sadio two days ago was that I didn’t think he was really focused and concentrated, that happened Thursday in the training session.
“He has let down his team-mates, because we as a club like to treat everybody with respect and you have a responsibility to the fans, to your team-mates, to the board, to the technical staff and that’s very painful.”
When asked if Mane’s actions were linked to Manchester United’s interest, Koeman replied, “Maybe ask him. Ask him why?”. Following the incident, Koeman angrily left Mane out of the starting eleven for the Norwich match. Mane joined Southampton from Austrian side, Salzburg in 2014 for an undisclosed fee. Mane finished last season with 10 league goals, but have only scored 3 in a difficult season for Southampton so far.
