Suarez is on Klopp’s target list, and could arrive Merseyside in the next transfer window. It won’t be the Uruguay international this time, but the Spaniard defensive midfielder who was at the Vicente Calderon last season. Liverpool haven’t been strong defensively in the midfield in a long while, and with the coach bringing on a new style which requires the team to press more, a new defensive midfielder is being targeted. The duo of Lucas Leiva and Joe Allen have been under-performing in recent times, and the need for a replacement has risen.
Mario Suarez was a Summer transfer target for Liverpool few months ago, but a deal didn’t work out and he went on to Serie A to join Fiorentina. His transfer to Italy saw ex- Manchester City centre-back, Stefan Savic move the other way. However, the 28 year-old has failed to settle into the style of play at the side and he is already considering a move away. The club too consider him surplus to requirements, and are looking to cash in on him by January in order to earn more funds to get a bigger player during the Windows.
The situation presents a perfect opportunity for Liverpool to go for him once again after having failed the last time. The Spain international has appeared just 4 times for La Viola since his arrival, and it is reported he doesn’t have a good relationship with the coach, Paulo Sousa. If he is successfully signed, Liverpool will benefit from his years of experience under Diego Simeone, whose style is similar to the new style at Anfield.
