Following Manchester United stalemate against PSV Eindhoven at home in mid-week Champions League clash, and the continual criticism of Louis van Gaal’s style, an unnamed member of the Red Devils squad has revealed the situations of things within the squad as a result of the Dutch man’s insistence on his philosophy. The player who has chosen to remain anonymous says he is ‘half the player he can be’ under the manager.
With midweek’s goalless draw against the Eredivise giants, United’s chances of advancing to the next rounds of the Champions League depend on their next and last group game, which is against Bundesliga side, Wolfsburg away from home. The German side has an impeccable record at home thus far, and getting all 3 points in the match looks already herculean and daunting a task.
Word coming from the Theater of Dreams says the players aren’t really comfortable with van Gaal’s methods – something we have heard in recent times too. The aforementioned anonymous player revealed these to Telegraph football journalist Jason Burt.
The veteran journalist said,
“I’ve got to be careful what I say here. I’ve spoken to one player at United who told me he’s half the player he can be here at the moment, because of the way they’re playing. He doesn’t feel it’s fair on him, he doesn’t feel it’s fair on the fans. He can’t express himself properly and he finds it very difficult to play here.”
This will no doubt keep a lot of guessing who it could be this time after such was reported at the Stamford Bridge, with talks of a player claiming he would ‘rather lose than win’ for Jose Mourinho. Anthony Martial could be the nameless player due to the coach’s decision to use him on the flanks.
The France international has proved more than twice that he is best suited for a number 9 role, but the coach has decided to move Rooney permanently to the position. And the skipper has failed to perform up to desired expectations thus far. Wayne Rooney excelled in the midfield behind the striker and as a supporting striker last term, he could also be the one not ‘half the player he can be’. Valdes, who has been ostracized from the team is also a suspect, and Memphis Depay fits the description too following his recent drop from the lineup. It remains to be seen whom this mystery player is, but one thing for sure is LVG’s style isn’t going down well with almost everybody.
