A defender remains a top priority for the Reds come Winter and they are planning to lineup a bid for Borussia Dortmund veteran defender, Mats Hummels. The Germany international World Cup winner has remained a key player for the Bundesliga giants, and despite being constantly linked with a move to the bigger sides, he has stayed put at the Signal Iduna Park.
The club’s Chief Executive, Hans-Joachim Watzke confirmed that Hummels was close to an exit during the Summer as Manchester United were pressuring the club for his sales. But they might not be able to hold on to him for much longer with Liverpool wanting him by January.
The highly-rated defender is regarded as one of the best and most experienced central halves in Europe, and will most likely secure that EPL move by Winter. Reports from Germany say the player is unsettled and feeling overburdened at Dortmund, making a long-awaited exit a more realistic event this time around.
Manchester United are reportedly still interested in his services as LVG continues to keep tabs on the player, but Anfield is a more likely destination because of the presence of Jurgen Klopp. It was always a known fact that the arrival of the 48 year-old will come with the added advantage of attracting high-profile players, especially his former Protegees at Dortmund.
Both had a successful time at the Signal Iduna Park and will no doubt be keen on a reunion at Liverpool. The German handler will no doubt be influential in Hummel’s decision to leave Dortmund if the reports of his unhappiness at the club are true, and it is only a matter of time for a move to be sealed and have him appearing in the Reds’ Jersey by Winter or at most next Summer.
