Liverpool continue plans for a squad overhaul as they have started lining up target for Summer signings once the season ends. The Merseysiders have identified Cameroon international and Marseille defender, Nicolas N’Koulou as a target for the next Summer transfer window. N’Koulou’s current contract with the French Ligue 1 side expires at the end of the season, and he turns a free agent once he sees the contract out. Liverpool will be hoping to get him for free by then, but they face fierce competition from Chelsea.
Jose Mourinho is keen to get 25 year-old by January as part of the Blues’ plan to fix their team when the Winter transfer window opens, and could lure the central half away from France. Liverpool have been short of central half options following the long-term injury for Sahko.
The France international picked up a ligament injury against Crystal Palace 2 weeks ago and has been ruled out for the remainder of the year. The Reds scouts have kept an eye on the Marseille defender for a while and are ready to make a swoop for his signature once he is declared free.
The Ligue 1 club will be hoping to cash in on the sales of the defender by Summer if both parties fail to agree to a contract extension. The EPL clubs interested in his services might lose out on him if he decides for a move to Italy as Serie A side, Lazio are also said to be planning to preparing an offer for him. Liverpool currently sit 10th on the League prior to the international break, and would be hoping to end the season with a top-4 finish.
