Alexis joined the Gunners from Barcelona for a hefty fee of £32m in the summer of 2014 and, the Chilean has been a major success under boss Arséne Wenger at the Emirates Stadium.
The Mirror claims the Gunners are very close to formally rewarding for his excellent form and that Alexis has agreed a new five-year deal worth £150,000 a week – making him the highest paid Arsenal player.
The Daily Mail also claim discussion for a new contract is at an advanced stage and the Chile star will bag a new deal worth £155,000 a week at the Emirates. Alexis has two-and-a-half years left on his current contract worth £130,000 per week and, Arsenal want to ensure the South American whiz does not enter the final two years of his deal.
Spanish news outlet Don Ballon chipped in with a claim early on in the week that Real Madrid are interested in bringing Alexis back to La Liga, while Manchester United are also readying an astronomical fee to land the Arsenal talismanic forward.
Following a busy summer in which he helped Chile to the Copa America tournament, Alexis started the season in slow fashion but the attacker has now returned to form – bagging 6 goals for the Gunners in 12 league outings.
There were fears among Arsenal faithful when it emerged Alexis was nursing a calf injury prior to Chile’s World Cup qualifier against Uruguay, but the Chilean played the full 90 minutes in the game as Uruguay defeated Chile 3-0.
Now, Alexis will be raring to go once again when Arsenal visit the Hawthorns to face West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
