The match of the week, first leg of round of sixteen, clash between two European Giants Arsenal and Barcelona was nothing short of expectations, with both teams giving their best to get the result in their favor. In the end, Barcelona stands out as the winner of first leg after beating Arsenal by 2 goals to nil at the Emirates, London.
The all awaited fixture of first knockout round was right up to the mark as both teams went on to the field with full strength of squads. Barcelona started with their trade mark 4-3-3 formation featuring the dangerous trio Messi, Neymar and Suarez up front. Arsenal went with 4-2-3-1 formation.
Barcelona started the first half with their passing game having 72% possession. Arsenal looked dangerous on counters right from the word go. They threaten Barca’s defense with couple of decent counters. Ter Stergen had to make some crucial saves to keep the Score 0-0 at half time.
Second half was much more entertaining than the first half with some end to end stuff from both teams. Suarez missed few golden opportunities to open the scoring. Barcelona finally broke the deadlock at 70 minutes with a goal by none other than Lionel Messi who dodges Cech to make room for shot and puts it into the back of the net. Messi scored another goal from the penalty spot, just after few minutes to bag 2 goals and finally breaking the curse of not scoring against Petr Cech.
Arsenal had all to do now to stand any chance going to the next round. On the other hand, Barca has two crucial away goals going onto the 2nd leg at home on 17th march.
