One of the biggest clashes of this year’s Champions league round of 16 was the encounter between London giants Chelsea and French champions PSG. As expected it was a cracker of a match. PSG won the match 2-1 in the end at their home ground, Parc des Princes.
A decent result for both teams, as Chelsea were playing away from home without their Leader, John Terry, young first choice CB Kurt Zouma and their midfield wall Nemanja Matic. In-form PSG team was favorite for the win.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored the first goal after Mikel brought down Lucas Moura to give away a free kick in dangerous area. But minutes later Chelsea replied with an important away goal just at the stroke of halftime with Mikel- being the most unlikely of scorers. Edinson Cavani gave PSG the lead again with a much needed goal, just minutes after coming on the field in place of Lucas Moura. Chelsea new back-four combination featuring Azpilicueta-Ivanovic-Cahill-Baba did a decent job to keep PSG away from scoring until Cavani made a great run to break the deadlock in 2nd half. Arguably, Courtois could have saved that shot from a tight angle. Nevertheless, Courtois was the pick of the players for Chelsea, producing some magical saves for the blues. Spotlight was on Eden Hazard, who was unfortunately not up to the mark last night.
Still, Chelsea would be pretty much happy with the result as they were without key players and would gladly take an away goal back to Stamford Bridge for the second leg of the encounter. Just don’t forget to watch the all important second leg on 10th march.
