30 minutes before the crunch clash of Manchester United and Midtjylland, Anthony Martial was called off the pitch when he stretched his right hamstring during warm-up. While Manchester United are playing Arsenal this weekend, calling-off of Martial was a huge blow for the team. The only possible replacement for Martial was the Marcus Rashford, who would be playing his first senior debut.
HE KILLED THE GAME. WHAT A DEBUT BY RASHFORD. It was certainly not the perfect build-up to the must win European game for Manchester United as they were trailing 2-1 from the first leg.
At the edge of 63rd minute, Midtjylland were holding 3-2 aggregate lead, when Juan Mata chased the cross, pulled one for Rashford to slam it home! The show didn’t end here. In next twelve minutes, Rashford found himself in the position for another cross to score another one and break the tie for next stage for Europa League.
United then went on to score another two goals with Herrera and Depay, and closing the game at 5-1 win, and 6-3 aggregate score. The score-line shows that tie the was easier for Manchester United ,but Van Gaal should not only be congratulating Rashford, but also thanking him, because without his key contribution United may have had a hard time to put the tie to death.
As United fans get to their home, it’s not about Van Gaal or Jose Mourinho anymore ,but Marcus Rashford is now the talk of the town- at least for a few days!
