The United States remains winless in men’s soccer in Mexico. The U.S. team fell yesterday to Mexico 2-1 in a World Cup qualifier on Wednesday.
The U.S. stormed out to quick 1-0 lead behind a Charlie Davies goal. But Israel Castro level to contest 19 minutes in on a 27-year blast.
The contest remained equal until the 82nd minute when Miguel Sabah put Mexico ahead for good.
The match was played in Mexico City’s Azteca stadium which is 7,400 feet about sea level. Having arrived just 24 hours prior, the U.S. team had little time to get their bearings in the new conditions.
The U.S. is now an imperfect 0-23-1 in Mexico with their lone draw coming in a 0-0 game in 1997.
The American continues on its journey to the World Cup visiting Trinidad and Tobago on September 9, then travel to Honduras on October 10 before returning home against Costa Rica on October 14.
