We are a long way from World Cup kicking off in June 2010, but here’s a little something to get you in the mood now.
On Wednesday, Honduras took care of business with a win over El Salvador. But to automatically qualify, Honduras needed Costa Rica to either lose or tie the United States.
With the Honduras match completed, the Honduras team, fans and media anxiously awaited the completion of stoppage time in Washington D.C., where the US trailed Costa Rica 2-1.
With no more than half a minute remaining in the match, the US was able to find the net to level the match.
It was an emotional scene in Washington, as the Americans on CONCACAF and saluted teammate Charlie Davies who remains hospitalized after a severe car accident early Tuesday morning.
But it was also a very emotional scene in Honduras as that goal allowed the country of 7.5 million to automatically qualify for World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
Here’s the radio call from Honduras of the completion of the US match. There’s absolutely no need to speak Spanish to understand what has happened.
