Cristiano Ronaldo’s Ankle Leaves Real Madird, Portugal in Limbo

Cristiano Ronaldo is under injury alert for a bad ankle. The Real Madrid superstar’s injury will force him out of the upcoming meetings Atletico on Saturday in the Primera Liga.

A statement on Real’s website read: “After examining the evolution of Cristiano Ronaldo’s injury today (Wednesday), it was determined that there has been no clinical improvement of the bone edema in the centre of his right ankle. The player cannot, therefore, begin training and must continue treatment and relief work until another examination is carried out.”

Ronaldo initially injured his right ankle in Real Madrid’s 3-0 Champions League victory over Marseille in late September. The 24-year-old then aggravated the ankle again in early October.

Early reports suggested the winger would be out three to four weeks, but the injury hasn’t improved. If surgery is needed he could be sidelined for as long as three months.

Ronaldo, who signed from Manchester United over the summer, is Real’s top scorer with five goals in the league and four in the Champions League. Real Madrid plays Barcelona at the end of the month while Portugal must face Bosnia-Herzegovina in World Cup qualifying play-off games in a few weeks.

Real Madrid is paying Ronaldo £80 million.

UPDATE: According to new information from the Daily Telegraph, Ronaldo will miss the Barcelona and World Cup qualifying matches.
